His love for football can never be questioned.

Offensive lineman Randy Richards has had quite the journey to get where he is. From undrafted NFL free agent, practice-roster duty, to finally starting at left tackle for the Stampeders, Richards has found his home on the O-line.

“A football career is a journey, especially coming from the States,” Richards said. “It’s about trusting the process. I love this game and I was willing to take whatever path it took me. It took me to Canada and I cherished it. I thank God every day of having the privilege of being here so I’m going to make the most of it.”

The 26-year-old joined the Stamps in 2015, seeing some playing time on occasion including starts at left tackle for the past two games.

“It feels great,” Richards said. “Like any professional, you have to get better every game. The more reps and experience you get in game, the better you’ll play.

“I appreciate them for getting me in the lineup, you have to be ready when they call on your number. I work on anything that I did wrong the practice or game before and I take it upon myself to correct those mistakes.”

Richards remains hungry for more. The native of Jamaica native wants to be one of the best lineman in the entire league.

“Personally, every time I step on the field, I believe I am one of the best,” Richards said. “I feel like I’m one of the best O-Lineman in this league, period. I try to handle my business that way.”

With a league-leading record of 8-1-1, the Stamps have been firing on all cylinders and the offensive line has been a major reason, with solid pass protection and opening up holes for the running backs.

Richards knows there is still more the offensive line can do to improve and, with the guidance of offensive line coach Pat DelMonaco, the job is getting done.

“We’re playing good right now no matter who’s plugged in,” said Richards. “We’re all on the same page. I give a lot of credit to Pat in getting us to pay attention to the details and our technique. He’s constructing us to be the best that we can be.

“We all know we have to protect the quarterback and open up holes for our running backs. Bo (Levi Mitchell) is a prized possession so we have to make sure that we keep him clean.”
