Papa Parker’s a playmaker

The last few weeks have been nothing but memorable for Anthony Parker.

The Stampeder receiver’s recent hectic schedule includes big plays on the field, an on-the-fly position change and a new addition to his family.

For the past two games, Parker has come away with some clutch plays to help the Stamps get past their Alberta rivals. After scoring a nifty rushing touchdown in the Labour Day Classic, he made an all-important catch late in Saturday’s rematch in Edmonton to set up the eventual game-winning touchdown.

“It’s always a confidence booster to make plays,” said Parker, “particularly plays that impact the game for your team. To be able to come up clutch play when your team is down a few points in the Labour Day rematch against a good football team gives you a huge boost. I’m excited to have a bigger role in the offence.”

When DaVaris Daniels went down with an injury in the rematch, Parker was switched from wide receiver to the “X” slotback position.

“It’s been about three years since I played there,” Parker said. “It’s just one of those things that learning the offence as a whole helped me prepare and have the confidence.

“As a group, we do a good job about learning the entire offence rather than just the position we play.”

Off of the field, the 27-year-old Okotoks product is busy with his family and their newest edition to the family, a baby girl who was in attendance during the Labour Day game last week.

It’s child No. 4 for the Parkers and he couldn’t be happier.

“It’s been great,” Parker said. “It’s keeping us that much more busy but definitely a welcome addition to our family.

“It was special having that be my 100th game and with  her being there at only three days old is huge. She won’t remember it but it’s a cool memory for me that I’ll cherish for a long time.”

Meanwhile, Parker is focused on continuing to make a contribution during the all-important stretch run.

“I want to keep doing what I’m doing, maybe get in the end zone a couple more times,” Parker said. “Every year you want to improve from the year before. I want to finish with numbers better than last year.

“The team goal is to finish one better than we did last year. We want to change our fortunes with that this year.”
