Daniels looking to deliver

DaVaris Daniels is picking the perfect time to heat up.

After an 11-yard performance in his first game back from injury on Oct. 20, the star receiver racked up eight catches and 137 yards last weekend in Edmonton.

“Definitely feeling good now,” said Daniels. “I’m feeling 100 per cent and hopefully I can keep doing my part.”

“I think I feel more like myself now than I did at any point this season. I’m very comfortable. I’m back at my original position now and I’m very comfortable in the offence. Just going out there, playing free, playing fast and trying to make plays for my offence.”

The second-year man has missed five games this season due to injury.

That down time was a struggle for the Notre Dame alumnus.

“It was tough,” admitted Daniels. “I’ve never really had to sit out before and, with a knee injury, it’s kind of hard because everything is day to day. One day it feels a lot different than the next. It’s just a process and it took some time. I had to get back into the playbook, get back into the rhythm with Bo [Levi Mitchell] and everything. It definitely took some time.”

Daniels’ return has been welcome for an offence looking to ramp up production heading into the playoffs.

“I know we need them right now,” he said, talking about big plays. “We haven’t been the offence everyone knows. I’m definitely putting it on my shoulders to try to come out and make plays, just like everyone else in the receiver group is.”

With the Western Final already locked in for the Stampeders, Friday night’s tilt against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers is an ideal opportunity to get their game firing on all cylinders.

“I think this is a good game for us to start fine-tuning our stuff and getting better as an offence; starting to eliminate penalties and things that will hold us back from winning a playoff game,” said Daniels. “We’re definitely looking forward to getting better as a team.”

The Stamps receiving corps has battled injuries all season. So getting Daniels, Marquay McDaniel, Kamar Jorden and Marken Michel and the rest  on the field at the same time is an exciting proposition.

“It’s deadly,” said Daniels of their group. “Marken has been having a big year. Everyone knows what Quay does. KJ’s had a big year coming back from injury. Reggie (Begelton) is in there making plays, Juwan (Brescacin) is making plays when the ball comes his way. There’s a lot of weapons that we have in this receiver group and to finally be able to get that on the field hopefully, that’s something that everyone should be looking forward to.”
