Stamps lead 17-8 at halftime

Halfway there, Stamps fans.

Calgary holds a 17-8 advantage over the Toronto Argonauts through two quarters at a snow-covered 105th Grey Cup from TD Place Stadium in Ottawa.

A 33-yard catch by Kamar Jorden on a third-and-three and a burst up the middle by Jerome Messam from six yards out have been the Stamps majors thus far.

The Stampeders went for two points after both TD’s. The first banked off the crossbar but the second was successful via a DaVaris Daniels reception.

On the final whistle, Rene Paredes was perfect from 39-yards out.

Toronto went deep on second down in between the two Calgary scores for a 100-yard major courtesy of DeVier Posey. The passing play was the longest in Grey Cup history, although the ensuing single-point try sailed to the left of the uprights.

On special teams, Ante-Milanovic Lintre got a hand on a Lirim Hajrullahu punt attempt to partially block the boot downfield. Later on, the snap from Pierre-Luc Caron went over the head of Rob Maver, forcing the Red and White’s punter to kick the ball out of his own endzone for a safety.

Starring on defence through two quarters has been Jameer Thurman. All in second-down situations, the first-year linebacker made a one-on-one tackle on Declan Cross, next forced Ricky Ray to throw into the bench area while driving him into the ground, was then oh-so-close to intercepting the veteran pivot and finally did record a sack.

Yardage totals to date favour Calgary, as the Stampeders have gained 194 yards compared to 135 for Toronto. Each time has also fumbled once but managed to recover their respective errors.

In the run game, Toronto has tallied a mere seven yards.

No. 89 for the Stamps had led the way in terms of the receivers as DaVaris Daniels has accumulated 66 yards on seven receptions, including a 24-yarder for the team’s initial first down of the night.
