Singleton Trading Snow for Sun

Nothing like the swing in temperature from Winnipeg to Mexico in March.

Just a wee bit of a difference, after all.

After a busy CFL Week promoting the Canadian game in the Manitoba capital, reigning CFL Defensive Player of the Year Alex Singleton will take a well-deserved time out and head to Cabo San Lucas.

“Have you seen the snow in Calgary? It’ll be nice to get away,” joked Singleton. “To get out of town and break up the monotonous training and everything, to get away will feel good.”

Singleton has been putting in a lot of work this off-season, training with Bo Levi Mitchell and Deron Mayo at the WinSport Performance Training Centre, as well as alongside some of Canada’s Winter Olympic athletes.

He’s also partnered with a local fresh and healthy prepared meals company to assist with his nutrition goals.

But calories don’t count while you’re on vacation, right?

“It’ll be a cheat week, I’m going to have some pina coladas and tequila tasting is on the list, so it’ll be fun,” he said. “I’m excited about it.”

“I’m all about the adventures. (My girlfriend) Meagan is all about laying out and getting a tan. I hate laying there. I don’t get it. I could just lay in my bed at home so I’m going to be in the pool and then out parasailing and doing all the fun things you can while you’re at a nice beach resort.”

Adopting Calgary as his home this off-season, the California native has truly embraced what being a Calgarian is all about. He can be seen cheering at most Flames and Roughnecks home games, as well as helping out in the community through various charity events, including the recent Polar Plunge in support of Special Olympics.

With training camp just around the corner, now is the perfect time for a getaway before focusing in on the 2018 CFL season.

Especially with all that snow!

“It will probably be the only time I don’t think about football,” he said. “That’s probably a lie, too. I’ll think about football but thankfully don’t have that many people around me that only think about football, too.”

“It’s the one week I guess in the year that I get the break from it.”
