Four Added To Rookie Camp Roster

The Calgary Stampeders have added four international players to their rookie-camp roster – quarterback Nick Arbuckle, running back Rushel Shell III, receiver Kylen Towner and defensive lineman Brandon Banks.

The four players will be among the group taking the field this morning at 10 a.m. as rookie camp gets under way at McMahon Stadium.

Nick Arbuckle

Arbuckle originally signed with the Stampeders on Sept. 27, 2016, and spent one month on the practice roster. He also attended Stamps training camp in 2017. Arbuckle attended the 2016 mini-camp of the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers. In college, he played two seasons at Georgia State and, as a senior in 2015, he was first-team all-Sun Belt Conference and was also the conference’s student-athlete of the year. He set a Sun Belt record with 4,368 passing yards in 2015 and set school records with 307 completions and 28 touchdowns. Prior to Georgia State, he played two seasons at Pierce College in California and threw for 73 touchdowns.

Rushel Shell III

Shell signed with the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 2017. In college, he played three seasons at West Virginia, amassing 2,010 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns for the Mountaineers. He also had 49 catches for 341 yards, three kickoff returns for 61 yards and one punt return for three yards. He played his freshman season at Pittsburgh before transferring to West Virginia, rushing for 641 yards and four majors and catching nine passes for 103 yards.

Kylen Towner

Towner played 51 games over four seasons at Western Kentucky. He saw extensive duty on special teams for the Hilltoppers, recording 99 kickoff returns for 2,758 yards and three touchdowns along with 23 punt returns for 220 yards and one touchdown. On offence, he caught 24 passes for 356 yards and two touchdowns and had 11 carries for 72 yards. As a junior, he set the NCAA’s FBS record single-season record for kickoff return average at 40.3 yards per return on 26 runbacks. He also is Western Kentucky’s career record holder in kickoff-return yardage.

Brandon Banks

International

Banks signed with the NFL’s Washington Redskins in 2017. He was placed on the Washington practice squad and activated for a Nov. 12 game against Minnesota. He played four college seasons at North Carolina-Charlotte. In 45 career games for the 49ers, he recorded 132 total tackles including 13 tackles for loss. He also had 4.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. Banks was all-Conference USA honourable mention in 2016.
