Sceviour Progessing Through First Month

One month ago today, first round pick Ryan Sceviour signed his rookie contract.

And now he’s on the brink of playing in his first professional contest.

Since being drafted eighth overall in the 2018 CFL draft, it’s been a whirlwind 30 days for the home-town boy, who had previously played four seasons at the University of Calgary (2014-17) with the Dinos.

“I was at McMahon Stadium,” he recalled of the day he was selected in the CFL draft. “The Dinos hosted it for us, all of our guys were down there. It was really exciting getting my name called finally; it was a weight off my shoulders.

“Now I’ve spent a month getting to know the guys, getting through training camp, it’s all been fantastic.”

Sceviour played in two pre-season games for the Red & White before making the active roster last weekend.

For Sceviour, things really couldn’t have turned out better.

“It’s definitely a dream come true,” Sceviour said. “Growing up watching the team play for years, and now I get to step onto the field with them, and run out with these guys. It’s really exciting. Something I’ve been looking forward to for a long time.”

An exciting time to be sure, but it’s been a lot to take in for the 22-year-old in his freshman year.

That being said, it’s been a smooth process thus far thanks to his teammates and coaches.

“With the playbook some stuff’s been easier than others, it’s definitely something that takes time, but it’s starting to come now,” he explained.

“It’s been really good, obviously a lot of time spent here at the stadium just getting ready to play. Coach Del Monaco has been great, and all the other o-lineman helping me out and getting ready.”

And while he may not be called upon to start Week 1, Sceviour is working to make sure he’s ready for when the team needs him.

“I go out there, try my best, work as hard as I can in the playbook – know everything I possibly can know – and I’m making sure to be as physically prepared as I can be,” said Sceviour.
