Finding an Edge

Kamar Jorden welcomes any advantage.

No matter how small.

When the Stampeders take to the field this Thursday night in the nation’s capital for their second straight game against the RedBlacks, they do so coming off a bye week after their 28-14 win over Ottawa June 28 at McMahon.

While they rested up, the RedBlacks played Montreal, dumping the Als 28-18.

“It’s harder to game plan because you know they’re game planning against what you did well (the last time you played),” said Jorden. “I think we got the advantage, a little bit, because they played another game that we got to look at.”

Facing an opponent twice in a row is not an easy task, as they’re able to pick up your tendencies, get a feel for the way you play, and they can adapt to what you did well the first time around.

So that opportunity to watch them during Calgary’s bye week could pay big dividends.

“It’s an advantage whenever we get extra film,” said Jorden. “As many chances as we get to watch what they do, some of their calls, what they like to do, it’s an advantage for us. We had the bye so we have a few extra days to get ready for them and I definitely think it’s an advantage for us.”

One disadvantage this time around, however, will be playing on the road and away from the comfy confines of McMahon.

“It’s going to be loud and it’s going to be a dog fight,” Jorden said. “Every time we play Ottawa we know that they’re going to bring their A-game and it’s not going to be an easy game. They’re not going to roll over. We just have to be ready to show up. We’ve got to be prepared to play all four quarters and we will be.”

“I think you can’t get complacent, especially if you feel like you had a good performance. You always want to find little things that you want to work on, so that you could play just a little bit better,” added offensive lineman Derek Dennis.

“We’ve got to be disciplined and we’ve got to eliminate some of the silly penalties we’ve been taking in the first couple games and we just need to stay locked in. That stadium and that team, if they get any type of momentum, that stadium gets real loud, so you’ve got to be able to handle the ups and downs and be able to execute and let the chips fall where they may.”
