Sack Hat Trick Nets Johnson Award

Defensive lineman Micah Johnson has been voted one of the Canadian Football League’s players of the week for his performance in the Stamps’ 27-3 victory over the Ottawa RedBlacks in Week 5.

Johnson recorded the second three-sack game of his career and was part of a Stamps defensive unit that limited Ottawa to 35 rushing yards and 150 yards of net offence. Johnson also had two forced fumbles and two defensive tackles against the RedBlacks to help the Stamps stretch their season-opening win streak to four games.

The sixth-year product of the University of Kentucky leads all CFL defensive tackles with four sacks this season and also has five defensive tackles, two forced fumbles and one interception. Johnson has been a key figure in a Calgary defense that has allowed a league-low 9.5 points per game and leads the CFL in numerous categories including sacks, turnovers forced and fewest yards allowed.

Johnson is the second Stampeders player to be recognized by the CFL’s weekly awards program as quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell was honoured in Week 2.
