Tmi: Getting To Know Juwan Brescacin

If you don’t know Juwan Brescacin’s name yet, it’s about time you do.

Brescacin had a breakout game against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats a few weeks ago, filling in for DaVaris Daniels who left the game with a broken collar bone. The 25-year-old caught over 100 yards in a game for the first time in his career on his way to helping the Stamps defeat the Ticats.

You may also remember this incredible one-handed snag against Hamilton to open the 2018 season (I guess Brescacin plays well against the black and gold…)

With the injuries to the Stampeders receiving corps this season, Brescacin has taken on a bigger role in the team’s offence – you can read more about that here – and it’s time to get to know him a bit better off the field.

What’s on his pre-game playlist? What’s his favourite football memory? Which teammate would he want to be stranded on a deserted island with? Find out the answers to those questions and much more in this edition of TMI!

Kristina Costabile: Tell me something that fans may not know about you.

Juwan Brescacin: I’m a gamer. I play a lot of video games.

KC: Are you a Fortnite guy?

JB: I was. I’m playing Spiderman right now. Spiderman 2. It’s a great game. I play NBA 2K as well.

KC: Xbox or Play Station?

JB: Playstation.

KC: Other than video games, what else do you like to do in your free time?

JB: Sleep. (Laughs) Read.

KC: What are you reading right now?

JB: I’m reading Black Klansman. So there’s the movie, but I haven’t seen the movie yet. I’m trying to finish the book before I see the movie. I’m trying to see if there are any details left out or anything.

KC: What’s on your pre-game playlist?

JB: I listen to reggae. Mostly Bob Marley though. It just keeps me even and it’s feel good music before the game.

KC: If you were stranded on a deserted island, which one of your teammates would you want with you and why?

JB: Ucambre Williams. He’s my roommate, one. So we get along. He’s funny and he’s an O-lineman so I know that he’s going to try and find a way to get food. And he can cook. I can hold my own too but overall, I feel like he’d be the best person to be on the island with.

KC: What are three things that you’d have to have with you on that deserted island?

JB: Something to make a fire with, for sure. Maybe a tent or something that I could live in. I don’t want to make it. I’m trying to be smart about it… I need clean water. Those are the three things.

KC: If you were not a football player, what would you be doing?

JB: I’d like to play basketball. I used to play growing up and in high school.

KC: Why did you choose football instead?

JB: I just felt like there wasn’t a lot of receivers that were my size and could catch like me. But there are now, but I don’t regret my decision.

KC: What is your favourite football memory?

JB: Probably playing in the Orange Bowl against Florida State in 2012. I didn’t really play that much but I did get to play, it was a big deal. It was cool.

KC: Do you have any superstitions or routines you have to do before a game?

JB: I keep finding myself doing different things. I don’t really have one. I use to be like, ‘oh I did this and that worked’ and then it didn’t. (Laughs) It didn’t work so then I was like, ‘okay, this is not a real thing.’

KC: What is something that you tried that you stopped doing?

JB: I would try and have the same meal the day before and then I was just like, ‘okay, that didn’t work.’ It was jerk chicken, rice and peas and I would try to have that. Especially in the CFL, I’d make sure I would have that. Then I was like, ‘okay, this isn’t working.’ It was wasn’t because of the food it was just not a real thing in my mind. A lot of athletes, they just love their routines. I don’t even know if it’s a superstition, I think they just like their routine.

KC: What is a song that you are a bit embarrassed that you know all the words to?

JB: Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus.

KC: What are you binge watching right now?

JB: I was just catching up on Ozark. I’ve just been watching Ozark and Ballers.

KC: If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?

JB: I’d like to fly just because no one can fly, why would I want to fly?
