The Calgary Stampeders have signed national offensive lineman Shane Bergman to a two-year contract. The University of Western Ontario alum had been eligible to become a free agent in February.

Bergman started all 18 games at left guard and was part of an offensive line that was tied for the fewest sacks allowed in the CFL this season with 27 and provided blocking for tailback Don Jackson, who was among the league leaders with 924 rushing yards and 5.8 yards per carry.

Bergman was also a starter for both the Western Final and the Grey Cup.

“With his reliability and high level of play, Shane has been one of the cornerstones of our offensive line for the past few years,” said Stampeders president and general manager John Hufnagel. “I’m pleased that he has made a commitment to the club for two more seasons.”

A sixth-round selection of the Stamps in 2013, Bergman has played 76 career regular-season games over six seasons with Calgary. He’s also appeared in nine post-season games and was a member of Grey Cup championship teams in 2014 and 2018.

“I’m glad we were able to get this contract done and I’m happy to be back,” said Bergman. “I’ve had a chance to play in a lot of Grey Cups as a member of the Stampeders and I couldn’t be happier with my decision to re-sign. I’m anxious to get back out there with my teammates for a chance to repeat as champions.”
