Stampeders Sign Jabar Westerman

The Calgary Stampeders have signed veteran national defensive lineman Jabar Westerman.

The 30-year-old Brampton, Ont., product has 109 regular-season games of Canadian Football League experience with the BC Lions and Montreal Alouettes and has 95 career tackles including 14 tackles for loss as well as 18 sacks, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, one interception and six knockdowns.

Westerman was BC’s first-round pick (second overall) during the 2012 CFL draft and was the Lions’ nominee and the West Division finalist for the CFL’s Most Outstanding Rookie award in 2012.

Westerman was born in Florida and grew up in Brampton, Ont., after his family moved to Canada in 1999. His older brother Jamaal is a member of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the siblings were briefly teammates with the Alouettes in 2018. Another brother – Jawann – played football at Rutgers and was signed by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2012.
