Player Blog: Brandon Smith

I’m glad to be back.

I missed being out there with the guys, running around and making plays. And I’m glad I was able to come back and help contribute to the win with that pick.

It was one of the plays you see and study on film. I was able to read it out, and when the ball came make a play on it. He sat down as expected and I just sat down with him and tried to undercut him and get the ball. Luckily I was blessed enough to have the ball stick to my hands.

It’s always good to get back in the win column, but we’ve got work to do. It wasn’t perfect but anytime you can come out with a win and not be perfect, it’s still good for the club, good for the guys.

We’ve just got to get back to the drawing board, clean up the errors and mistakes we made, and continue to try to put W’s up.

Being out for two games, I noticed guys definitely stepped it up in my absence.

I was just able to sit back, help coach and tell guys how I see the game from an experienced point of view. We’re continuing to gel as a secondary, we’re starting to come around together and we’re starting to make plays.

We’re celebrating with each other, we’re believing in each other.

Ottawa is a good team, so we’ve got to start game planning for next week. We know they have a new quarterback this week, so we have to analyze what’s going on and how they’re playing with the new person behind centre.

We need to play assignment-sound football: being where we need to be, and tackling – that’s something we need to be better at, tackling. But that just comes with continuing to be out there, believing in ourselves and running to the ball.

We’ll be ready to go out there next week and fly around.
