Stamps Ahead In The Battle Of Alberta

It was all about the defence early on in the Battle of Alberta.

The provincial rivals forced punt after punt, resulting in a scoreless first quarter of play.

But as the skies opened up and rain began to fall, so did the points.

Rene Paredes, playing in his 150th career game, was the sole scorer in the first half, hitting from 47, 43, and 42 yards. With the first of three field goals, Paredes (1,469) passed Gerry Organ for 14th place on the CFL all-time scoring list.

The Stampeders defence, led by some outstanding play by defensive end Cordarro Law, shut down Trevor Harris and the Edmonton offence, allowing no points and just 78 yards of offence.

Calgary, protecting a 9-0 lead, will be kicking off to Edmonton to begin the second half.
