Did You Know? Stampeders Fun Facts

Here’s some fun facts on your Stampeders and the CFL:

1. The Stamps played their first game on Oct. 27, 1945, and beat the Roughriders 3-1 in Regina.

2. The Stamps are the only CFL team to have an undefeated season (1948).

3. The Red & White still hold the longest undefeated streak at 22 straight wins.

4. McMahon Stadium was built in only 103 days back in 1960.

5. The most-watched Grey Cup game was the 97th edition on Nov. 29, 2009, at McMahon Stadium. The Montreal Alouettes beat the Saskatchewan Roughriders by a single point.

6. Movie superstar and former WWE wrestler Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson spent time on the Stamps practice roster back in 1995 as a defensive lineman, but was cut after two months.

7. Running back Jon Cornish was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player in 2013, the first Canadian to win that award since Tony Gabriel in 1978.

8. Going into this year’s annual Classic, the Stampeders are on a seven-game Labour Day winning streak against the Edmonton Eskimos.
