McCOIL ADDED TO PRACTICE ROSTER

The Calgary Stampeders have added veteran American linebacker Dexter McCoil to the practice roster.

McCoil has a lengthy professional resume including 36 regular-season games in the Canadian Football League with the Edmonton Eskimos and 26 National Football League contests with the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers and San Francisco 49ers.

He was named a West Division all-star in both of his seasons with Edmonton (2014 and 2015) and was a member of the Eskimos’ 2015 Grey Cup championship team. In 36 regular-season games, he accumulated 143 defensive tackles including nine tackles for loss, 17 special-teams tackles, six sacks, nine interceptions including two picks returned for touchdown, 12 knockdowns, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries including one returned for a major.

He was the CFL’s Most Outstanding Rookie in 2014.

In 26 career NFL games including two starts for the Chargers in 2016, McCoil accumulated 30 tackles, five passes defended and one interception.

Collegiately, McCoil played four seasons at Tulsa where he played 51 games and made 44 starts for the Golden Hurricane. He amassed 315 total tackles including 10 tackles for loss, 25 pass breakups, 18 interceptions including one returned for touchdown and one forced fumble. He was named to the Conference USA all-freshman team in 2009 and second-team all-Conference USA in 2011. McCoil was named first-team all-Conference USA as a senior in 2012 as the Golden Hurricane won the Conference USA title.
