It came down to the final play.

And the Winnipeg Blue Bombers walked off the field the winners of a 29-28 contest against the visiting Calgary Stampeders.

Calgary held a late two-point lead but with the clock draining, the home squad was able to rally and allow their kicker Justin Medlock to connect on a short field goal to take the lead as time expired.

The road team opened the game receiving the football and then proceeded to rumble downfield with precision, ending with a 22-yard touchdown strike from Bo Levi Mitchell to rookie Hergy Mayala.

Rene Paredes would add the extra point to give the Red & White an early 7-0 lead.

Mitchell was once again on point, gashing the Bombers defence for 350 yards and four touchdowns on 31/43 completions.

Early in the second quarter, Medlock connected on a 29-yard field goal attempt to put the home team on the board.

On the Stamps next series, Rob Maver just barely missed a perfect coffin corner kick and settled for a Rouge, and an 8-3 Stampeders lead.

After a missed Paredes field goal attempt, the Bombers reversed the field in a hurry and eventually found paydirt on a 3 yard run by Nik Demski.

With 1:28 remaining in the half, Mitchell and the Stamps offence looked poised as they rapidly moved the chains and worked their way down the field. With a second left on the clock, Mitchell connected with Eric Rogers on a 2-yard toss. The 2-pt convert would go incomplete and the visitors would head into halftime with a 14-10 lead.

On Winnipeg’s first play of the second half, quarterback Zack Collaros found Kenny Lawler in the endzone for the score and a 17-14 lead.

But Calgary would respond.

Mitchell found Rogers and Mayala for touchdowns on the Stamps next two possessions, giving them a 28-19 lead.

Winnipeg would hit the endzone late in the fourth quarter on a scramble play to Darvin Adams before orchestrating the game-winning drive.

Calgary will be back in action next weekend in BC as they take on the Lions in their regular season finale.
