Mace’s Turkey Drive Back For Seventh Year

Almost 300 turkeys and hams were collected during Corey Mace's 2016 Christmas turkey drive.

Calgary Stampeders defensive line coach Corey Mace is set to lead his annual Turkey Drive for the benefit of those without a holiday meal.

The program began in 2013 when Mace was playing for the Red and White and has continued ever since. Last year’s initiative generated 1,061 turkeys and hams – surpassing the previous record of 414 set in 2017 – for the less fortunate in and around the Calgary area.

“This is our seventh year doing the Turkey Drive and we’re humbled at how the city keeps making this bigger and better every year,” said Mace. “We have partnered with some new charities and foundations so the initiative is even more widespread for those in need. We are honoured to be the ‘middle man’ for a city with such a big heart.”

Mace will be making an appearance at the Scotiabank Saddledome to promote the cause on Thursday, Dec. 12 when the Calgary Flames face the Toronto Maple Leafs at 7 p.m.

He will also be hosting a Family Fun Day at InjaNation Fun & Fitness (102-52 Aero Dr. NE) on Sunday, Dec. 15 from 12 to 2 p.m. with admission fees being directed to the turkey drive. All guests will also be automatically entered to win a raffle prize.

There are three locations to make a turkey, ham or cash donation:

• At the Stampeders West Administration Office, located on the southwest corner of McMahon Stadium, on Friday, Dec. 13 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• At the Aspen Landing Shopping Centre Safeway (375 Aspen Glen Landing SW) on Saturday, Dec. 14 from noon to 4 p.m.
• At Sobeys in Airdrie (65 MacKenzie Way SW) on Sunday, Dec. 15 from 3 to 5 p.m.

On Monday, Dec. 16, Mace will once again be personally delivering the donations to the Airdrie Food Bank, Children’s Cottage Society, CUPS, Enviros Wilderness School, Inn From The Cold, The Mustard Seed and the Veterans Association Food Bank.
