The visiting Calgary Stampeders have a chance to get back to .500 with a win against the Ottawa Redblacks on Friday at TD Place Stadium.

The Stamps (5-6) look to rebound after a 20-17 home-field loss against the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday that snapped Calgary’s three-game winning streak. The Redblacks (2-9) are on a four-game losing skid including last week’s 32-3 loss in Hamilton.

Not only does Friday’s game represent the latest date by far for a Stampeders-Redblacks meeting in the Nation’s Capital, it’s also the latest date on the calendar Calgary has ever played any Ottawa team in any location during the regular season. Since the arrival of the Redblacks in 2014, an Aug. 24, 2014, meeting represented Calgary’s latest visit to Ottawa.

Before this season, the latest in the year the Stamps and Redblacks had met was a Sept. 17, 2016, game at Calgary’s McMahon Stadium. Including previous Ottawa franchises, the latest CFL regular-season meeting between the two cities had been Oct. 23, 1982, when the visiting Stampeders faced the Rough Riders at Lansdowne Park.

Since the birth of the Redblacks in 2014, the Stamps have an 8-2-2 regular-season record against Ottawa including a 3-1-2 mark on the road.

Calgary sits in third place in the West Division, two points back of second-place Saskatchewan and two ahead of fourth-place BC. Ottawa is fourth in the East and has been mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.

The Stamps have won have won two road games in a row to improve their 2021 away record to 3-2 and are 1-2 against East Division opponents. Ottawa is 1-4 at home and 2-3 against the West.

Calgary quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell needs just 14 passing yards to become the 18th player in CFL history to reach 30,000 in his career. BC’s Michael Reilly is the only active player in the exclusive 30,000-yard club and four other members – Henry Burris, Danny McManus, Kevin Glenn and Doug Flutie – spent parts of their careers with the Stampeders.
