Stamps Haunt The Redblacks In Win

On their way home with the W.

The Stampeders are back at .500 on the season following a 26-13 victory over the Ottawa Redblacks at TD Place in Friday Night Football action.

It was a big night for Stampeders quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell as he joined the exclusive 30 thousand club.

Entering the game just 14 passing yards away from eclipsing 30 thousand, it didn’t take long hit the milestone – a 17 yard toss to Ante Milanovic-Litre would do the trick in the first quarter. With 106 starts under his belt, Mitchell is now tied with Mike Reilly for the fifth-fastest quarterback to hit 30 thousand passing yards in the league, and will join 18 other CFL greats with the career landmark.

This comes less than a week after another impressive achievement for Mitchell, as he became the franchise’s all-time leader in completions in last week’s tilt against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Mitchell finished the night 22-of-29 for 242 yards, while Ka’Deem Carey rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown, and Rene Paredes added to his league-leading points total with a 4/4 night on field goals.

Ottawa’s Lewis Ward kicked off scoring on the night, hitting a 15-yard field goal on the Redblacks’ second possession of the game.

The Stamps tied it up swiftly with a 43-yard Paredes field goal on the following drive which saw Mitchell hit the 30 thousand yard mark.

On the next series the Redblacks got their first and only major of the night, when an 11-yard Caleb Evans pass connected with Kenny Stafford in the endzone to round out scoring in the first frame.

The Red & White answered back just two minutes into the second, as Carey powered his way to the endzone to cap off a five play, 67 yard march down the field with his sixth rushing touchdown of the season.

With less than five minutes remaining in the opening half, Paredes got the Stamps their first lead of the tilt with a 27-yard boot.

The Stamps padded their lead on the first drive of the third quarter, as Paredes hit a 28-yarder.

Ward then narrowed the gap with 4:16 left in the frame with a 24 yard boot.

But the Stamps didn’t back down, on their next possession Jake Maier and Kamar Jorden connected on a 15 yard touchdown pass to round out a six play, 60 yard drive to put the visitors up by ten at the end of Q3.

Paredes then added to his perfect night in the fourth after splitting the uprights with a 47-yard field goal, the final score of the evening.

The Stamps now head into a bye-week before heading to B.C. to take on the Lions Nov. 12. Kickoff is 8:30 p.m. MTN.
