Q&A with Cameron Judge

He’s a good judge of character.

He knew he wanted to sign in Calgary.

“It’s a place I held with high respect entering the league,” said Cameron Judge on The Rod Pederson Show. “I got on the call with Coach Dickey and it seemed like everything cleared up. It made too much sense for me to sign there. I really enjoyed my conversation with him and pretty much after that it was a done deal”.

Stamps Associate Digital Producer Makayla Berze chatted with Judge to find out more about one of the newest Stamps.

BERZE: I talked to Jordan Williams-Lambert yesterday, obviously you both played for Sask and I was just asking him about the rivalry between the Stamps and the Riders and what it’s going to feel like dressing in red this year instead of green. So, I turn to you now and pose the same question. Could you walk me through the intensity between the two clubs from your perspective and if you have an idea of what it will feel like being on this side of the rivalry?

JUDGE: Oh, it’s definitely something I’m looking forward to. Looking at last season they played three times and in all three games -and even my time with the Riders – at least two of those games are always key and kind of deciding the standings. To be on the other side of it is definitely going to be a new experience and something I’m looking forward to.

BERZE: You played in Toronto last year and there’s no secret that a lot of former Stampeders are now in double blue. Is there anyone you met that previously played for Calgary that has shared their insights on the Stamps or has told you what to expect here?

JUDGE: Oh yeah, even in my time in Toronto, there was so many good things I heard about how everything is done (in Calgary) so when I got on the phone it was already a pretty easy decision from what I’ve heard during my time playing for other teams. So, yeah I can’t wait to get there.

BERZE: I don’t mean to single anyone out so if you don’t have an answer it’s no problem, however, is there anyone here that you’re looking forward to playing with or learning from?

JUDGE: I’d probably have to go with Bo, Bo Levi. Obviously, we’ve had some good times out there on the field and just being able to go out there against him every day in practice is something I’m looking forward to. Even Jake as well, the quarterbacks are who I’m most excited to play with because having a good quarterback you can go against every day in practice only makes you a better linebacker.

BERZE: In your mind, what’s the biggest thing you bring to this team? I believe the Stamps were one of if not the youngest team in the league last year; perhaps your experience will lend itself to some of the younger guys?

JUDGE: I think experience is definitely something I can bring. I’ve spent some time up in the league now and also I think I can bring some leadership in just the way that I practice and the way that I go about handling business. I think for some guys you know I can help them out that way and as a professional and stuff like that. So yeah, I guess just coming in and bringing experience and how to be a leader out there, back up the things that I say and put it all out on the field.

BERZE: I find that the off-season tends to parallel that period where you’re getting ready for a new year, starting fresh. So instead of any New Year’s resolutions per se, do you have some goals that you’re working towards for 2022 football-wise?

JUDGE: I think I only really have one goal and that’s to win a Grey Cup. Have fun playing football and represent Calgary the best that I can.

BERZE: I watched your interview with Rod Pederson this morning and saw how excited you are to come to Calgary which also led me to do some snooping on Instagram.

JUDGE: (Laughs).

BERZE: It looks like you took a little trip to Lake Louise. Is it fair to say there are more trips to the mountains in your future?

JUDGE: Oh yeah, that’s definitely something I’m looking forward to. I went out there on a bye-week actually when I was playing for Saskatchewan. Now that I’m already there, yeah me and my girlfriend are already trying to plan out some trips. I love it there.

BERZE: It’s time for some more fun questions now to give the fans more of inkling of who you are and your personality. So of course, I got to ask you, what show are you binge-watching right now?

JUDGE: I’m not really binge-watching anything… but, I did just watch the Tinder Swindler (laughs).

BERZE: (Laughs) Alright, well do you have a comfort show? Something you always put on?

JUDGE: My comfort show… that would be Family Guy. Yeah, whenever I need some background noise I’ll put on some Family Guy or cartoon like that.

BERZE: If you could choose three emojis to describe you, what would they be?

JUDGE: The laughing crying face, maybe the sunglasses one and the two raised hands.

BERZE: Here’s a scenario for you: It’s a cheat day, you can eat anything you want and as much as you want. What are you having?

JUDGE: Oh, some kind of burgers. I’d probably get a few different burgers (laughs). In-N-Out, Five Guys, yeah some of those fast food burgers.

BERZE: You’re stranded on an island but you’re allowed to have three items, what are they?

JUDGE: I’m assuming I can’t have a raft?

BERZE: Sure, you can pick that.

JUDGE: Okay, a raft, a paddle and GPS system.

BERZE: Okay, smart choices.

BERZE: Who is someone that inspires you or that you look up to and why?

JUDGE: I’ll say my parents, because of the things they’ve been through and how they’ve been able to provide for me throughout my life, and the sacrifices they’ve made for me and my siblings.
