Stamps Resume Pre-season Play On Saturday

Calgary Stampeders vs BC Lions
McMahon Stadium
Saturday, May 28
2 p.m. kickoff
Radio: 770 CHQR

The Calgary Stampeders return to pre-season action on Saturday for the first time since 2019. The matinee affair with the BC Lions kicks off at 2 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on 770 CHQR radio. There is no TV coverage of the contest.

Calgary will be making a pre-season appearance for the first time in 1,056 days since taking to the field at BC Place on June 7, 2019, also against the Lions. There were no CFL games played in 2020 and the 2021 schedule began with Week 1 of the regular season. In every year there has been pre-season play since 2013, the Red and White have faced BC.

In their last 10 pre-season outings overall, the Stamps are 7-3. Calgary has earned at least a spilt of their two tune-ups dating back to 2005.

Last year, the Stampeders finished third in the West Division at 8-6 while the Lions, 5-9, were on the outside looking in when the playoffs began. Their head-to-head season-series finished 2-1 in Calgary’s favour, with the visitors winning on each occasion.

A significant number of players will be in uniform on Saturday afternoon in hopes of earning a spot on the squad. All teams must reduce their roster to 75 players by 9:59 p.m. MT on the day following their first pre-season outing.

Both divisional foes have one final dress rehearsal next Friday, June 3, as Calgary will be on the road in Edmonton to lock antlers with the Elks and BC will host the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Training camps officially conclude on Saturday, June 4.

McMahon Stadium will be the site of the CFL’s first regular-season game in 2022 when the Montreal Alouettes travel west. The Stamps visit Hamilton the following week.
