Calgary Stampeders vs Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Saturday, July 30
5 p.m. kickoff
TV: TSN

After suffering their first loss of the season in Winnipeg back on July 15, the Calgary Stampeders will get another chance to move up in the standings by knocking off the undefeated Blue Bombers on Saturday evening.

Their previous matchup in Week 6 came down to the final minute as the Stamps were unable to complete a necessary touchdown drive. Bright spots for the Stampeders included a 110-yard rushing performance from Ka’Deem Carey, a four-for-four outing by Rene Paredes which included a pair of field goals of at least 48 yards and the defence registering four sacks on Zach Collaros.

Calgary (4-1) was on a bye last week making this weekend’s game their second straight against the Blue and Gold. Winnipeg (7-0) will be making back-to-back appearances in Alberta after dispatching the Edmonton Elks by a score of 24-10 last Friday.

In three straight regular-season trips, the Bombers have left McMahon Stadium with a loss. The last three non-playoff meetings overall between Calgary and Winnipeg have a total point different of just two – 199-197 in favour of the Blue Bombers.

Statistical categories in which the Stampeders lead the way include best average starting field position, fewest offensive two-and-outs and fewest yards allowed per play. The Bombers are No. 1 in time of possession and rushing attempts and have yet to concede a rushing touchdown.

Individually, Calgary’s Malik Henry is averaging a league-high 20 yards per reception while Winnipeg’s Greg Ellingson and Dalton Schoen are currently two of just three CFL receivers with at least 500 receiving yards. Willie Jefferson (seven) and Deatrick Nichols (six) of the Blue Bombers along with Brad Muhammad (five) of the Stamps have been credited with the most knockdowns through Week 7.

A third and final clash between these West Division foes comes on Thursday, Aug. 25 back at Manitoba’s IG Field.

Next week’s schedule has the Stamps on the road in Ottawa and the Bombers completing their three-game road stretch in Montreal.
