The Calgary Stampeders (4-2) face the Ottawa Redblacks (1-6) on Friday night in their second of three Eastern road trips this season.

After opening the year by hosting Montreal and travelling to Hamilton, the Stamps will play two of their next three in the East – this week in Ottawa and Aug. 20 in Toronto.

Bo Levi Mitchell – the league’s active leader in passing yards with 32,049 – needs 143 more to pass Henry Burris for the franchise record.

Another upcoming milestone of note is equipment manager George Hopkins working his 1,000th game for the club on Friday.

In Week 8, the Stamps lost their second consecutive game to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, both by seven points. Saturday saw the Red and White enter the final quarter with a lead, but Zach Collaros’ fourth touchdown pass of the game proved too much for Calgary to overcome.

Ottawa picked up its first win of the season with a 23-13 triumph in Toronto. Caleb Evans completed 82.8 per cent of his pass attempts and Jaelon Acklin made 10 catches for 144 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Argos running back Andrew Harris was limited to just 17 yards on the ground.

With those results, Calgary currently occupies third in the West while Ottawa sits fourth in the East.

Heading into Week 9, the Redblacks lead the league with 15 completions of 30-plus yards, while the Stampeders have been the stingiest team against big plays through the air having conceded just six 30-yarders.

Last season, the Stamps picked up a 26-13 victory in Ottawa.

Looking ahead on this year’s schedule, Calgary will host the BC Lions on Saturday, Aug. 13 and Ottawa will be on a bye before welcoming the Edmonton Elks in Week 11.
