Stamps Find Their Scoring Touch in the First Half

It’s a beautiful night for football from McMahon stadium as the Stampeders host the BC Lions in Calgary.

The Stamps lead the Lions 30-18 at the half.

Bo Levi Mitchell is 10-for-18 for 145 yards and two touchdowns.

Dedrick Mills has rushed the ball four times for 38 yards.

Shawn Bane Jr. has five receptions for 64 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively it’s Nick Statz, making his debut at safety and has recorded two tackles to go along with his first career interception, leading the way.

The game started well for Calgary, until it didn’t. The Stamps forced a two-and-out on BC’s first drive but the ensuing punt was fumbled and recovered by the Lions at the Stampeders 35 yardline.

The turnover led to the first points of the game as Sean Whyte punched a field-goal through from 19 yards out to make it 3-0.

It was a short-lived lead for the Lions as rookie receiver Jalen Philpot returned the ensuing kick 77 yards to the Lions 30.

Mitchell became the Stampeders all-time leader in passing yards on the next play, finding Shawn Bane Jr. for eight yards.

The drive stalled and Rene Paredes came out to tie the game at three from 28 yards out.

The defence continued to play well on their next time out, Nick Statz picked off Nathan Rourke in his first career start for the Stamps.

The interception led to a 19 yard touchdown pass from Mitchell to Philpot for his first career CFL TD.

The offensive trouble continued for the Lions as they couldn’t get anything going and were forced to punt again, leading to a Paredes 53 yard field-goal tying a career high.

It was 13-3 after the first quarter.

The Stamps got on the board with another turnover early in the second quarter.

Folarin Orimolade intercepted Rourke deep in Lions territory and ran it into the endzone for his first career pick and touchdown.

The Stampeders led 20-3.

The Lions responded on their next drive, moving the ball 78 yards in five plays before Rourke found Rhymes in the endzone to make it 20-10.

Calgary continued to finish drives with points, as Paredes put one through the sticks for the third time in the first half to make the score 23-10.

The Lions seemed to make an adjustment into the second quarter as they found the endzone once again on their next drive as Rourke dove in from one yard out to make the score 23-17 Stampeders.

The punch, counter-punch first half carried on as Calgary marched right back down the field thanks to some big runs from Mills.

The Lions got on the board with about a minute to go, but it was of the rouge variety after a punt through the endzone to make it 30-18 Stampeders.

Calgary had about a minute to work with and got into field-goal position once again, however Paredes missed from 51 yards out and the score remains 30-18 heading into the half.
