Second place in the West Division is on the line on Saturday when the Calgary Stampeders play host to the BC Lions. Kickoff at McMahon Stadium is 5 p.m.

It’s the second of three regular-season meetings between the Stamps and Lions, with the clubs meeting once more next week in Vancouver.

In the first matchup of the season at McMahon in Week 10, BC beat Calgary 41-40 in a high-scoring thriller. The Stampeders have since won three of four games to improve to 8-4 while the Lions have managed one win in three tries and sit at 8-3.

Calgary’s most recent outing was a 56-28 victory over the Elks in Edmonton while BC dropped a 31-10 decision to the Alouettes in Montreal.

The Stampeders-Lions contest features the two highest-scoring teams in the CFL – BC leads the way with 31.7 points per game and Calgary is marginally behind at 31.6 points per contest.

The Lions’ output has dropped significantly in two games since an injury to starting quarterback Nathan Rourke as BC has scored a combined total of just 26 points in suffering consecutive losses. The Leos recently acquired Vernon Adams Jr. in a trade with the Alouettes and have named him the starter for this week’s game.

Meanwhile, Jake Maier has been under centre for Calgary for the past three-and-a-half games and the sophomore pivot has completed 75 of 98 passes for 975 yards with six touchdowns and two interceptions during that stretch.

The Stamps are 3-2 at home this season and 4-4 against West Division opponents. The Lions are 4-1 on the road and 5-2 against the West.
