Stamps D Stands Tall In Win

The Calgary Stampeders picked up a huge 25-11 win against the Lions on Saturday night to lock up a playoff spot.

Calgary moves to 9-5 on the season with a win to move into a tie for second in the West with BC.

Jake Maier went 27-for-33 for 294 yards.

On the ground Ka’Deem Carey rushed 12 times for 84-yards and a touchdown.

Malik Henry caught nine passes for 88-yards.

On defence Shawn Lemon had two pass knockdowns and his 11 sack of the year.

The Stamps wasted no time showing off their bag of tricks as they went straight to an onside kick to start the game.

Nick Statz successfully batted the ball out-of-bounds to secure possession for Calgary. But, the drive was stopped short as Rene Paredes missed a field-goal on the drive to keep the game scoreless.

The Stamps would open the scoring on their next drive.

After a couple of first-downs, Paredes made sure he was perfect and hit a field-goal from 39-yards out making the score 3-0.

That would be how the first quarter ended.

The Stamps added another field-goal from 33-yards away in the second quarter to make the score 6-0.

Calgary’s defence was huge on Saturday night forcing the Lions to punt six times in the first half alone.

The first major of the game was scored just before halftime as Maier found Jalen Philpot for 54-yards leading to Carey punching it in on the ground from three-yards out making the score 12-0 heading into the half after a missed two-point convert.

Calgary added to their lead coming out of the break. After Carey had a 29-yard run, Paredes hit again from 31-yards away to make the score 15-0.

BC finally got on the board with a field-goal of their own making the score 15-3 heading into the final quarter.

Paredes hit his fourth field-goal of the night three minutes into the fourth quarter to restore the 15-point lead making it 18-3.

Peyton Logan then put the game away with a great individual effort from 19-yards out to make the score 25-3.

The Lions got the ball in the endzone late in the fourth quarter and added a two-point conversion to make the final score 25-11 Stampeders.
