Stamps Snuff Riders Playoff Chances

The Stampeders went into Mosaic Stadium and ripped any chance of making the playoffs away from the Roughriders with a 32-21 win.

Calgary moves to 11-6 on the season and after a Lions win this weekend, will travel to BC for the West Semi-Final.

Jake Maier went 15-for-24 for 205-yards and one touchdown.

Dedrick Mills ran the ball 17 times for 103-yards and a touchdown

Jalen Philpot had two receptions for 64-yards.

On defence, Cam Judge had six tackles and one sack to lead the way.

Calgary quickly shut down the Riders offence to start the game and got things moving on their offensive side of the ball quickly. Carey sliced through the Riders defence for 21-yards on the first drive which eventually led to a 30-yard Rene Paredes field-goal to open the scoring at 3-0.

The Riders would answer on their next drive as Brett Lauther evened the score at three from 46-yards out.

Calgary marched the field once again on their second drive but could not find the endzone resulting in another Paredes field-goal this time from 42-yards away making the score 6-3 after the first quarter.

The Riders would even the score once again early in the second quarter as Lauther hit a field-goal from 45-yards away to make the score 6-6.

The Stamps continued to move the ball on their next drive, Maier found Philpot for 47-yards but again the drive ended with a Paredes field-goal from 16-yards out. The Stampeders led 9-6.

Again it was the Stamps putting one through the uprights on their next drive, they led 12-6.

Saskatchewan got into field-goal range late in the quarter but Lauther missed from 53-yards away and it was 12-6 heading into the half.

The Stamps fumbled the kickoff to start the third quarter leading to the Riders starting from the Calgary 28-yardine. The Riders would get the first major of the game two plays later to make the score 13-12 Saskatchewan.

Calgary marched on their next drive getting into the redzone and then Ka’Deem Carey finished off the drive with a one-yard touchdown run to put the Stamps back ahead 18-13 after a failed two-point conversion attempt.

The ball was moved down the field by Calgary once again as they pounded the ball on the ground which led to another touchdown, this time from Mills. The Stamps led 25-13 with three minutes to go in the third-quarter.

The Riders would got into field-goal range on their next drive but Lauther missed his second of the night, Calgary gave up the single and it was 25-14 heading into the final quarter.

Calgary would launch a dagger into the Riders playoff chances as Maier found Richie Sindani in the endzone to make the score 32-14 with about eight-minutes remaining in the final quarter.

Saskatchewan got the ball to the Stampeders 20-yardline but had to go for it on third-down and did not get it, turning the ball back over to Calgary.

The Riders returned a punt 104-yards with 36-seconds left in the game to make the score 32-21.

Saskatchewan then recovered an onside kick but were sacked twice and took a knee to end the game.

The two teams face-off again next Saturday in Calgary at 6 p.m.
