They say everything’s bigger in Texas and the city of Dallas could soon be witnessing a two-team championship parade in June.
Although they may be 3,034 kilometers away from home, Texans Logan Bonner and Damontre Moore are paying close attention to their hometown teams.
With a win Tuesday evening, the Mavericks could sweep the Minnesota Timberwolves and advance to the NBA Finals to take on the Boston Celtics in a battle for the coveted Larry O’Brien Trophy.
Meanwhile the Stars are coming off a 5-3 win against our provincial rivals Edmonton Oilers Monday evening to take a 2-1 series lead in the Western Conference Finals in their quest for their first Stanley Cup since 1999.

“It’s a pretty special moment for the city with both major teams being in the Western Conference Finals,” said Bonner. “It’s a pleasure for me because every night is either a Mavs or Stars game and they’re really playing well so I’m excited for the city and the teams.
“I grew up going to Stars and Mavs games my whole life. I know where I’m at right now but I’m always going to have a little love for the home teams.”
His fellow Dallasite, Moore, is equally excited about his city’s recent post-season success.
“Feeling pretty good,” he said with a grin. “The city is on right now. You got two professional teams that are potentially about to go to the championship, so I’m excited.”
Similarly to Bonner, Moore has been attending Dallas sporting events since he was a kid.
“I’ve been a big Mavericks fan and a Stars fan since I can remember. Back in the day we used to get the Dr. Pepper and Coca-Cola cans and you could get a five-dollar ticket to go to the game and so for us if I got straight-A’s or A’s and B’s I always looked forward to getting that ticket from either the Coke can or being on the honour roll.
“So, for me, I’m living the childhood dream right now.”
While they may be occupied with practice and meetings during the day, the night is dedicated to cheering Dallas on.
“I look forward to seeing them on TV every night,” said Moore.
“Being away from home is like what Drake said, ‘I’m hardly home, but I’m always reppin’. This is my 12th year playing professional football so a lot of these moments I’m rarely home for, but I’m Texas through and through. I’ve been wearing my Texas hat for the last three or four days in a row for the Stars and the Mavericks so right now, like they say, ‘In Kyrie we trust’ and ‘In the Stars we trust.’ ”
The most recent Dallas championship came at the end of 2023 when the Texas Rangers won the World Series. Both Bonner and Moore are hoping the Mavericks and Stars can help bring home a three-peat.
“We just got to hope that these teams pull through and make it a three-peat. It would be pretty cool,” said the quarterback.
“We are trying to pull the three-peat this year,” echoed the defensive lineman. “Once we do that, we’ll see what happens with that fourth team (Cowboys). It’s all in due time.”
