We end our training camp preview with the quarterbacks, who look entirely different heading into 2025. Third-year QB Logan Bonner is the only pivot from last season’s group returning to the Red and White and will compete alongside five new additions at camp.
CFL vet Dakota Prukop was appointed QB coach this off-season, taking over for Beau Baldwin who had to step away due to personal reasons.

Big-Play V.A.
Following a last-place season (and the first season in 20 years since the team missed the playoffs), the Stampeders knew they had to make changes heading into 2025.
The first domino fell when GM Dave Dickenson and AGM Brendan Mahoney made the call to the BC Lions to acquire Vernon Adams Jr.
The blockbuster move set the tone for the rest of Calgary’s off-season decisions and I’d argue that VA suiting up in red and white this summer is the most anticipated moment of the CFL season.
The nine-year veteran was deep in the MOP conversation last year before suffering an injury in Week 9. The rest of his season was put on pause due to the return of Nathan Rourke.
Relive the VA magic! 🪄

Walk This Way
The Stampeders also brought in former NFL QB P.J. Walker. The 30-year-old took the Calgary club for a test-drive last October before officially inking a long-term deal in November.
Walker previously started in seven games for the Carolina Panthers and two games for the Cleveland Browns. He’s also spent time with the Chicago Bears and Seattle Seahawks.

Short-Yardage?
With the departure of Tommy Stevens, there has been a lot of talk surrounding the Stampeders short-yardage situation heading into 2025.
Last week, the team selected Brantford, Ont. product Quincy Vaughn with the 17th-overall pick in the draft. A converted quarterback, Vaughn saw action at tight end for North Dakota and also served under centre in short-yardage situations. The 6-foot-4, 251 lb. Canadian could be a viable candidate for the Stamps.
Canadian QB-turned-TE Quincy Vaughn (@quincy_vaughn4) plays a unique brand of football.
Hamilton, Ont.’s own was North Dakota’s go-to short-yardage ball carrier, but can also catch, pass & block. Remember when Vaughn cleared the way when UND pulled … EVERYONE?

Calgary also brought in two American rookies: Joey Gatewood and Josh Love.
Gatewood played his senior season (2023) as a tight end at the University of Louisville. He previously played QB at Central Florida (2021), Kentucky (2020), and Auburn (2018-19).
Love played 41 games and made 26 starts over four seasons at San Jose State. He finished his career with the Spartans as the third-leading passer in school history with 7,206 yards and was fourth with 578 career completions.
