The Calgary Stampeders got off to a hot start but couldn’t hang on as the Alouettes hit a game winning field-goal with 1:10 remaining to defeat the Stamps 23-21 on Thursday night at McMahon Stadium.
The Stampeders fall to 5-2 on the season while the Alouettes sit atop the East standings also at 5-2.

Adrian Greene got the Stamps faithful to their feet with the first big play of the game after punts from both sides to begin. He jumped an out route for his league-leading fourth interception of the season to give the Stampeders the ball at the Alouettes 44 yardline.

That led to a seven yard touchdown run from Dedrick Mills. That major put him at six this season. Rene Paredes missed the extra point to make it 6-0 with 1:37 remaining in the first quarter.

The Als quickly pushed back to start the second-quarter. They hit on a 42-yard passing play that got them inside the 10, but could not find the endzone settling for a 10 yard field-goal.
On the next Stamps drive, Vernon Adams Jr. scrambled out of the pocket before finding Dominique Rhymes for a 33-yard touchdown pass to put Calgary up 10.

The Alouettes answered with an eight play 77-yard drive that found the endzone. The score was 13-10 Stampeders with 5:25 remaining until halftime.
Montreal tacked on a field-goal as the half ended to take a 14-13 lead into the break.
The Stamps got the ball to start the second-half and put together a six play, 65 yard drive that ended with Mills’ second TD of the game. Calgary was successful on a two-point conversion attempt to put them ahead 21-14 four minutes into the third-quarter.

That would be all the scoring in the third as the game entered the final frame with the Red and White up 21-14.
The Alouettes drew a little closer added a field-goal with 8:38 remaining in the game.
Montreal drove the ball again after back-to-back Stampeders three and outs, leading to another field-goal making the score 21-20 Stampeders with 2:43 remaining.
The Alouettes got another chance with the ball and hit a 58 yard field-goal to take a 23-21 lead with 1:10 remaining in the game.
The Stampeders took over on their own 41 yardline following the kickoff with P.J. Walker stepping under centre following an Adams injury.
Calgary was unable to convert on a third-and-two and turned the ball over on downs.
The final score was 23-21 Alouettes.
