7 Things – Bombers @ Stamps

1. Us

After dropping back-to-back losses against the Montreal Alouettes and Ottawa Redblacks, the Stampeders are looking to get back into the win column in their Week 10 matchup against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

QB Vernon Adams Jr. draws back into the lineup after missing action in last week’s loss due to a head injury he suffered against the Als late in third quarter the game prior.

Saturday’s game marks the first of a three-game home-stand for the Stamps, who host the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Aug. 23 and the Edmonton Elks for the Labour Day Classic on Sep. 1.

The team does not hit the road again until they travel north the QEII for the Labour Day Rematch against the Double E, nor do they leave the confines of Alberta until the end of September when they pay a visit to the Als on Sep. 26.

The club will have to make good on home field advantage as their next five opponents all remain within the West division.

2. Them

Led by backup quarterback Chris Streveler, the Bombers are coming off a 40-31 win over the Toronto Argonauts. It was the team’s first victory since June 26 when they handed the Edmonton Elks a loss.

Winnipeg also gets their starting pivot back as veteran QB Zack Collaros returns for the Blue and Gold after exiting their Week 8 matchup against the Argos at halftime due to a neck issue.

3. Head to Head

Saturday night’s contest marks the third and final matchup between the Stamps (5-3) and Bombers (4-3), giving Calgary the opportunity to sweep Winnipeg after already claiming the season series.

The Red and White delivered two losses to Winnipeg this season, both by a margin of two scores as they stomped the Bombers 37-16 in the inaugural Stampede Bowl and again 41-20 when the club visited Princess Auto Stadium two weeks later.

Kickoff at McMahon Stadium goes at 5 p.m. MT.

4. Fast Facts

Calgary and Winnipeg are among the best defensive teams in the CFL as the Stampeders have allowed their opponents a league-low 11 offensive touchdowns while the Blue Bombers are tied for second in that category with 16 offensive majors yielded.

The Stamps are 3-0 against West Division rivals so far this season and 2-2 on their home turf. The Blue Bombers are 3-2 against the West and 1-2 on the road.

Thanks to our Director of Communications Jean Lefebvre for handing off these facts!

5. Who’s Where

6. Players to Watch

Stamps: REC Clark Barnes: The third-year Canadian returns to the lineup after missing four-straight games. The last time we saw Barnes take the field was when he opened the scoring against the Bombers in the Stampede Bowl, hauling in a 43-yard touchdown over Marquise Bridges and Evan Holm.

The 24-year-old has recorded 216 receiving yards and one touchdown through nine quarters of play in 2025, including when he went over 110+ yards in Week 1 against the Ticats.

Bombers: DL Willie Jefferson: It would be remiss not to select Willie Jefferson for our player to watch from the Bombers. The 11-year CFL vet continues to cause problems in the trenches for the opposition, whether it’s getting to the quarterback or batting down pass attempts, 2019’s CFL MODP is not slowing down.

In last week’s win over Toronto, Jefferson knocked down four of Arbuckle’s throws and also added a sack and a forced fumble to his illustrious resume, earning him Pro Football Focus’ top player of the week.

Vernon Adams Jr. and the Calgary offence will have to monitor Willie J’s whereabouts on every snap Saturday night.

7. Quotable

“We’re very motivated. Two losses in a row, we want to get back on track and get back in the win column.” – QB Vernon Adams Jr. on a hungry Stamps team looking to compete against the Bombers on Saturday night.
