7 Things – Stamps @ Elks

1. Us

The Stampeders look for their fourth straight win when they head north for the Labour Day rematch in Edmonton on Saturday at 5 p.m. Last time out, the Stampeders dominated the Elks 28-7 in the LDC at McMahon Stadium. The Red and White defence registered four sacks, while Dedrick Mills rushed for 106 yards to pace the team to victory.

2. Them

Prior to Monday’s loss, Edmonton had won three straight putting them back in the playoff conversation. Now, they trail B.C. by two points for a potential crossover spot. Cody Fajardo threw for 255 yards and added 44 on the ground in the defeat.

3. Head To Head

This is the second of three games between the two Alberta rivals this season. They will wrap up the season series on Oct. 24 in Edmonton on the final week of the regular season.

4. Fast Facts

In every season but one since 1989, Calgary and Edmonton have played at McMahon on Labour Day and a return engagement at Commonwealth later in the week. In the 34 previous home-and-home series, the Stampeders have swept 12 times, Edmonton has six sweeps and the meetings have been split on 16 occasions.
The Stampeders are 3-1 on the road so far this season and are 6-0 against West Division opponents. The Elks are 2-3 at home and 0-5 against the West.

Thanks to our Director of Communications Jean Lefebvre for handing off these facts!

5. Who’s Where

6. Players to Watch

Stamps: DB Godfrey Onyeka: Onyeka has been an impact player since entering the starting lineup. He registered five tackles and a fumble recovery last week, and an interception the week before against the Riders.

Elks: REC Arkell Smith: Smith was the favourite target of Fajardo the last time out with seven receptions for 81 yards. He has 322 yards on 27 catches this season.

7. Quotable

“It’s a balance. You want to make changes and do different things but you only get one day to practice it. The other thing is body-wise you need to give them enough rest. So, we’re trying to balance everything out and then go up there and see what we can do in the rematch.” – General manager and head coach Dave Dickenson on preparing for the Edmonton Elks during the short week.
