7 Things – Stamps @ Als

1. Us

The Stampeders (8-5) have an opportunity to get back in the win column against the Alouettes (7-7) after dropping back-to-back losses to the Elks and Lions. Kickoff goes at 5 p.m. MT on Friday night at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium.

QB Vernon Adams Jr. remains at the helm of Calgary’s offence despite exiting last weekend’s game with a back injury late in the third quarter. After being listed as limited on the first two days of practice, the 10-year veteran finished the week strong as a full participant in practice on Wednesday.

“He looks good to go, he’s passed all the hurdles he needs to,” informed GM and head coach Dave Dickenson when asked about his starting quarterback.

The tilt in La Belle Province marks the first of three road games in a row for the Stamps who will jet off to Vancouver and Hamilton in the following weeks before returning home for their final regular season contest at McMahon Stadium on Oct. 18.

2. Them

The Alouettes are on a two-game win streak after handing out losses to the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Toronto Argonauts.

QB Davis Alexander returns to the lineup for Montreal after missing time due to a lingering hamstring issue. Other Als players who have returned from injury over recent weeks include Tyson Philpot, Austin Mack, and Marc-Antoine Dequoy.

3. Head to Head

This week’s contest represents the second and final meeting of the year between the Stamps and Als. Montreal came away with a 23-21 winner at McMahon Stadium in Week 8 thanks to a late 58-yard field goal by José Maltos Diaz. Maltos Diaz leads the CFL in field goals made with 43 this season.

This is the 88th all-time regular-season meeting between Calgary and Montreal. The Red and White are 43-42-2 all-time against the Alouettes including a 15-27 mark in Montreal.

4. Fast Facts

  • Rookie punter Mark Vassett is making an impact in his first season with the Stampeders as he leads the CFL with a net punting average of 43.3 yards. One of seven Australians on the list of qualified punters in 2025, Vassett also has pinned the opposition inside its own 10-yard line on eight occasions. Montreal’s Joseph Zema sits behind Vassett for second with an average of 39.6 yards per punt.
  • Calgary is 3-2 on the road this season and 2-3 against East Division opponents. Montreal is 2-5 at home and 3-5 against the West.
  • Leading into the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation of Sept. 30, the Stampeders and Alouettes will both be wearing orange jerseys during the pre-game warmup.

5. Who’s Where

6. Players to Watch:

Stamps: RB Dedrick Mills: The fourth-year tailback has his eyes set on his first 1,000 yard rushing season in the CFL (and his first since high school). Only 46 yards away, Mills could surpass the milestone on Friday night in Montreal and would also be the first running back this season to do so. The 28-year-old has tallied eight touchdowns so far this year, and gone over the 100-yard mark in a game on two occasions.

Als: Davis Alexander: The Alouettes starting quarterback returns to action to face the Stampeders for the first time in 2025 after being hampered by a hamstring injury throughout the season. The 26-year-old has a 8-0 record as a starter in the CFL and will be put to the test by a stingy Calgary defence looking to bounce back from last week’s loss to the Lions.

7. Quotable

“Let’s get back to us and let’s try to play our best football in the backend of the season.” – QB Vernon Adams Jr. on the team’s focus heading into Montreal.
