Stamps Downed By Lions

Vernon Adams Jr. threw two touchdowns in the ‘Gravy Bowl,’ but it wasn’t enough to take down the streaking BC Lions Saturday night in Vancouver, as the Stamps fell 38-24.

The Stampeders dropped their fourth straight game in the final regular-season meeting with the Lions. The loss brings Calgary’s record to 8-7 and put them third in the West Division.

Wide receivers Clark Barnes and Dominique Rhymes found the endzone, while DL Clarence Hicks had two sacks in the loss.

Nathan Rourke and the Lions responded by driving up the field with a 40-yard deep shot to receiver Justin McInnis who found the endzone.

In the second quarter, the Lions offence continued to attack on an eight-play drive that led to another touchdown. Rourke connected with Jevon Cottoy for a 14-yard TD to extend the lead to 14-3.

The Stamps hit a 43-yard field goal from Parades to make it 14-6.

Rourke and the offence marched up the field after a 32-yard completion to Ayden Eberhardt. The BC pivot would then go on to find Keon Hatcher in the endzone with just 13 seconds remaining until halftime. Rourke threw for three passing touchdowns before half extending the Lions lead to 20-6.

In the third quarter, the Lions had big-yard gains from Cottoy, Hatcher and McInnis to put the Lions in Stamps territory. Rourke would connect with Hatcher for the second time off a 10-yard pass to increase the lead to 28-6.

After putting together a good drive up the field, the Stampeders offence was stopped at the BC 18-yard line, but closed it out with another Parades field-goal to cut the lead to 28-9.

The Stamps found the endzone in the fourth quarter after Adams Jr. and Clark Barnes connected for a seven-yard TD to cut the lead to 31-15.

Adams would cash in the two-pt conversion and the Stampeders offence was beginning to find their mojo down 31-17. The following drive the Stamps pivot would find receiver Dominique Rhymes on third and goal for a six-yard touch down to bring Calgary within one score of tying the game.

The Stampeders made a final push before the Lions closed the night off with an interception and another touchdown.
