Stamps Win Three Straight To Closeout Regular Season

On a night where Edmonton looked to play spoiler, the Stamps prevailed to keep their hopes of hosting a home playoff game alive.

The third straight win concludes the regular season as the Red and White finished with an 11-7 record and will wait for the conclusion of BC’s games tomorrow to see who they will play in the 2025 CFL Playoffs.

STAT PACKΒ

Vernon Adams Jr. – 17-for-24, 285 yards

Dedrick Mills – 17 carries, 69 yards, one reception, 3 yards

Erik BrooksΒ  – five receptions, 136 yards

Tevin Jones – three receptions, 63 yards

The Stamps offence took control quickly with an eight-play 78-yard drive that took up the first five minutes of the first quarter. Running back Quincy Vaughn cleaned off a 1-yard rushing touchdown to put the Red and White up 7-0 early in the game.

In the second quarter Calgary continued to gain momentum after Marquel Lee retrieved the ball from a Miles Brown blocked field-goal late in the the first to put the offence out. Pivot Vernon Adams Jr. and receiver Erik Brooks made some nice plays to put the Stamps in the red zone, but they opted for a Rene Paredes field-goal to extend the lead to 10-0.

Paredes wasn’t done there as the golden boot for the Stamps kicked a 44-yard field-goal on the following drive to further stretch the lead to 13-0. Then with a minute left in the second quarter he kicked a 41-yard field-goal to tack on another three.

The Red and White didn’t waiver as the defence got involved, with DB Jaydon Grant making an interception off a Cody Fajardo pass attempt for his third interception of the season. Calgary went to the half up 16-0.

In the third quarter, Adams Jr. connected on a pass to Brooks who took it for 74-yards to the Edmonton 6-yard line. The offence was stopped shy of the endzone and had to opt for their fourth field-goal of the game hit by Paredes, to put the Stamps up 19-3.

The following drive, the Elks’ offence finally showed some light when Fajardo connected with receiver Jalon Calhoun for a 9-yard touchdown to tighten the score to 19-10.

Midway through the fourth quarter it was a back and forth affair until DB Brady Breeze blocked an Elks punt to put Calgary on the Edmonton 3-yard line. His second blocked punt in as many weeks.

There was no coming back in this one as the Stamps defence held on to secure their third straight win with a 20-10 victory in the Battle of Alberta.
