Stamps Dominate In Stampede Bowl Win

The second annual Stampede Bowl kept the fans at McMahon Stadium on their feet.

The Stamps picked up their second straight win by a score of 58-36 in an offensive onslaught that saw Vernon Adams Jr. throw for six touchdowns against the Toronto Argonauts. The pivot tied the Stampeders single-game touchdown record in the offensive outburst.

Four different receivers found the endzone on the night, with Jalen Philpot and Dejon Brissett picking up a pair of touchdowns each in the win. The defence picked up a sack and Zy Alexander picked up his second interception in as many weeks with a highlight reel snag. The rookie DB wasn’t done there and picked up another interception in the fourth quarter for his third of the season.

The Stampeders offence wasted no time in this one, with Adams Jr. finding Philpot in the endzone on the first offensive drive to go up 7-0 five minutes into the first.

In back-to-back weeks rookie DB Alexander put his stamp on the game, this time picking up a one-handed interception. On the following offensive drive, Adams Jr. connected with former Argo Brissett to tack on another seven for a 15-7 lead in the second quarter.

The momentum didn’t end there for the Stamps, Philpot cashed in his second touchdown of the night on a one-yard reception to the house.

Big-Play VA was in his bag in the first half, throwing his fourth touchdown with just 17 seconds left in the first half. The pivot found Tevin Jones on a 73-yard touchdown to extend the lead to 29-18 heading into halftime.

That momentum carried into the second half when the veteran quarterback threw his fifth touchdown pass of the game to Clark Barnes on a 45-yard reception to the end zone.

The offensive attack continued, this time with pivot Quincy Vaughn punching in a one-yard rush to the end zone to extend the lead to 44-30 in the fourth quarter.

Adams Jr. continued putting his foot on the gas pedal on the next offensive drive, rushing in a 22-yarder to the end zone.

There isn’t enough superlatives to describe the night that Adams Jr. was having. The pivot tossed his sixth touchdown pass of the night to Brissett on an 11-yard reception to tie the Stampeders single game touchdown record.

The Red and White will hit the road and gear up for a home-and-home series with Montreal beginning in Quebec on Saturday, July 11. That tilt kicks off at 5 p.m. MT.

The Stamps will return home on July 18 for the second battle with the Alouettes with a 2 p.m. kick off.
