Stamps and ATB ready to walk for a Cause

The ATB Financial Classic tees off on Aug. 8 at the Country Hills Golf Club.

On Aug. 13, the final day of the MacKenzie Tour — PGA TOUR Canada event, the Stampeders Foundation, in association with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC), is hosting a 3K Charity Walk.

“We are thrilled to have partnered with ATB on this unique initiative that will help fund Stampeders Foundation programs along with the LLSC,” said Stampeders president and general manager John Hufnagel. “Funding from the Stampeders Foundation provides access to minor and amateur football and sport programs to youth in Calgary communities and schools.”

For a donation of $30, participants will be given an opportunity to walk the golf course, while watching the final round of the ATB Financial Classic.  The walk is set to wrap up at the 18th hole as the last handful of groups are finishing their round. This event is child and dog friendly for those who want to bring the whole family.

All of the money raised through the walk will be split 50/50 between the Stampeders Foundation and the LLSC. Including a donation from ATB, the fundraising goal for the event is set at $50,000.In an attempt to help raise money and awareness for the causes that are represented, Stampeders quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell will be in attendance.

And it’s safe to say, he’s ready to help make a difference.

“I’m really excited about it,” said Mitchell. “It’s not often that you get to go out and just walk around to help raise money. We’re going to get a lot of great people there and a lot of great donors. But getting out there and raising the awareness is the biggest thing. The money falls in line, but having the platform that we have as professional athletes and myself as quarterback of a team and the leader of our team, our city, I have to make sure I get out there and help these causes and try to get more people to show up and care.”

While participants will get to enjoy the presence of Mitchell, they’ll also enjoy watching top-tier golfers from around the world.

Having worked with other sports organizations in Western Canada, like the Vancouver Canucks and the Edmonton Oilers, ATB is delighted to partner on a project to help raise money for such deserving causes.

“ATB Financial is excited to partner with both the Stampeders Foundation and the LLSC on the ATB Classic Charity Walk,” said Kris Noble, Manager of Community Initiatives, ATB Financial. “Both the Foundation and Society have done some exceptional work in this community and we hope that this walk will go a long way in eliminating blood cancers. I’d encourage you to bring your runners and come walk with us on Sunday!”
