The Stamps remained in fine form on Thursday night while taking their show on the road.

A 41-24 victory in Toronto caps a three-week period in which Calgary has outscored their opponents by a cumulative total of 128-35.

Now with a bye to enjoy before travelling to BC on Aug. 18, the Stampeders are 5-1-1 and have at least temporarily taken over first place in the West.

“I think it was a big win for us – the last two actually – (with) two East teams and you know you are going to be starting to get kind of your meat and potatoes of the West,” said head coach Dave Dickenson once coming off the turf. “You’ve got to stay in the area code with Edmonton. They’re playing well. I do feel like we are in a good spot. We’re not exactly where we want to be but I think this a great start to the season and hopefully we can build on it.”

The second-longest punt return in Stampeders history signified the next trip to pay dirt as Finch dashed down the field for a 103-yard score. After 11 straight showings without crossing the goal line, the unquestionably quick Florida native has now ran one back in back-to-back appearances.

In the midst of the third 15-minute period, Bo Levi Mitchell dropped a perfectly-placed pass into the arms of Marquay McDaniel for a touchdown of nine yards. The reliable veteran would finish with eight catches after not making a reception last week and thus snapping his run of 76 straight games with at least one snag.

“I feel like he’s a good route-runner and they played a lot of man (defence) on us,” Dickenson explained in reference to McDaniel. “We had I think probably guys that we feel were open but Marquay has got that security blanket with Bo and he found him.”

Reaching inside the pilon during the final frame, McDaniel registered his second major to ensure a rout of the Argos which featured a total of five end-zone visits for Calgary.

Rene Paredes’ field goal from 18 yards out gave the Stampeders their first lead of the game with 2:12 to go in the initial quarter of action. He later added another chip shot en route to 20 unanswered points for the Stamps.
