McCoil went unselected in the 2013 National Football League draft before attending rookie minicamp with the Oakland Raiders. He then joined the Los Angles Kiss of the Arena Football League on Feb. 17, 2014. McCoil signed with the Edmonton Eskimos on May 31, 2014, and spent two seasons with the team before signing with the NFL’s San Diego Chargers on Jan. 12, 2016. He played all 16 games for the Chargers, included two starts, and played two more games for San Diego in 2017. McCoil was waived by the Chargers on Oct. 7, 2017. He was then claimed off waivers by the San Francisco 49ers on Oct. 9, 2017, and played eight games for the 49ers that season. He was released on Apr. 30, 2018, and re-signed on Aug. 17, 2018. McCoil was later waived again by San Francisco on Sept. 1, 2018, and joined the practice squad on Sept. 27, 2018. He was released on Oct. 9, 2018, and was signed to the Los Angeles Chargers’ practice squad on Jan. 2, 2019. McCoil was released from the practice squad due to injury on Jan. 3, 2019. In 26 career NFL games between the Chargers and 49ers, McCoil recorded 30 tackles, five knockdowns and one interception returned for a 99-yard touchdown.
(Edmonton) McCoil played in all regular-season 18 games for Edmonton, tallying 76 defensive tackles including five tackles for loss, seven special-teams tackles, two sacks, five knockdowns, three interceptions, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He played in both the Western Final and Edmonton’s Grey Cup victory, amassing six tackles, one sack and one interception in the post-season. He was named a West Division all-star.
(Edmonton) McCoil played all 18 regular-season games for the Eskimos, registering 67 defensive tackles including four tackles for loss, 10 special-teams tackles, four sacks, seven knockdowns, six interceptions including one returned for a touchdown, one fumble recovery returned for a touchdown, one touchdown from a lateral pass, and one safety. He played in both the Western Semi-Final and Western Final, accumulating a total of nine tackles, one sack and one interception. He would go on to be named a West Division all-star and the CFL’s Most Outstanding Rookie.

McCoil played four seasons (2009-12) at Tulsa where he played 51 games (44 starts) for the Golden Hurricane and made 315 total tackles including 10 tackles for loss, and 25 pass breakups,18 interceptions included one returned for touchdown and one forced fumble. He was named to the Conference USA all-freshman team in 2009 and second-team all-Conference USA in 2011 when he was also named Tulsa’s MVP of the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl. He was named first-team all-Conference USA as a senior in 2012 as the Golden Hurricane won the Conference USA title and were victorious in the Liberty Bowl.
McCoil majored in exercise and sports science at Tulsa. He is a second cousin of former New York Giants defensive back Corey Webster.
