College
Lawson played 17 games over two seasons (2020-21) at Western Illinois. He made 151 total tackles including 102 solo stops while also contributing nine tackles for loss, three sacks, six forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, six interceptions and 12 passes defended. Lawson scored three return touchdowns with the Leathernecks – one on a punt, one on a fumble recovery and one on an interception. Lawson transferred to Western Illinois from Lamar, where in 2019 he was a first-team Southland Conference all-star as both a defensive back and a punt returner. In 11 games for the Cardinals, he made 94 tackles including 65 solo stops, 8.5 tackles for loss, one forced fumble, five interceptions including one pick-six and a forced fumble. Lawson averaged 10.5 yards per punt return and also had a blocked kick. Before Lamar, he played at City College of San Francisco and had 89 tackles and five interceptions in 19 games for the Rams.
Personal
Lawson played football and basketball at Patterson (Calif.) High School. He played both ways for the football Tigers and scored 31 touchdowns during his senior season.
