Blackwell played 48 games and made four starts over four seasons (2021-24) at the University of Texas. He saw duty both as a linebacker and a defensive back for the Longhorns and accumulated 64 career tackles including four tackles for loss, one fumble recovery and one blocked punt.

Personal

Blackwell earned all-district honours three times at Martin High School in Arlington, Tex. He had 95 tackles including eight tackles for loss, one sack, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble as well as two rushing touchdowns during his senior season with the Warriors.
