After coming off a 23-13 home defeat at the hands of the Eskimos, Calgary will travel to BC on Friday for their second and final pre-season affair in 2016.

The 8:00 p.m. matchup against the Lions at BC Place will serve as the last chance for current members of the Red and White to showcase their skills in live action before final cuts are made league-wide on Sunday, June 19.

With only a walk-through remaining before Friday’s contest, head coach Dave Dickenson was given the opportunity to reflect on his first training camp as head coach and noted he has been pleased with the progress thus far.

“I thought that we were pretty smooth,” Dickenson disclosed. “I thought that the weather held up nice and we pushed them hard. But I thought that we were at least smart with their legs as best we could be. We were able to get a lot of reps and everybody’s taken their turn. We’ve let every single person get in there in different situations. We feel like if we’re going to ask a kid to make a team, you’ve got to give them a real chance, and we think we have.”

Recent roster additions in quarterback G.J. Kinne and receiver Josh Harper are expected to make their CFL debuts after signing with the Stampeders following last Saturday’s game against Edmonton.

Kinne has spent time in the NFL with the Jets, Eagles and Giants. Meanwhile, Harper attended the initial stages of this year’s training camp before his release in late May.

Veteran fullback Rob Cote is also projected to suit up for the first time in 2016 after sitting out a week ago.

Offensive lineman Quinn Horton, the Stamps seventh and final selection in the 2016 Draft, will be playing his first game in Vancouver since concluding his four-year career at Simon Fraser. While with the Clan, Horton played his senior year under head coach Kelly Bates who spent seven seasons along the offensive line of the Leos.

In Calgary’s recent loss to Edmonton, Ciante Evans returned a fumble for a touchdown and Rene Paredes went two-for-two on field goal attempts.

BC will be looking to improve to 2-0 before beginning their regular-season schedule after winning 28-16 last week in Regina versus the new-look Roughriders. TJ Lee, Anthony Thompson and Ronnie Yell each recorded an interception for the Lions, while Shawn Gore hauled in the lone BC touchdown on the evening.

The Lions’ 2015 campaign ended with a road loss in Calgary after dropping the West Final by a score of 35-9. The Stampeders did not surrender a touchdown and the defence did not allow a 100-yard rusher or a 100-yard receiver back on November 15.

Having also faced off in pre-season action the past two seasons, the Stamps claimed a 20-6 victory at McMahon in 2015 and the Lions came out on top at home in 2014 by a score of 37-13.

Calgary will head right back to the west coast to open up Week 1 with another match-up against BC on Saturday, June 25.
