The Calgary Stampeders have acquired two undisclosed negotiation-list players from the Saskatchewan Roughriders in exchange for international defensive back Fred Bennett and national defensive back Jeff Hecht.

Bennett joined the Stampeders in 2012 and played 73 regular-season games for the Red and White, recording 166 tackles, four special-teams tackles, 10 interceptions, seven forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and 17 knockdowns. He also appeared in six post-season games for Calgary including the Stamps’ 2014 Grey Cup win over Hamilton. Bennett was a West Division all-star in 2014.

Hecht also joined the Stamps in 2012 and he made 18 tackles, 31 special-teams tackles, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery in 56 career games with Calgary. He played six post-season games for the Stamps and was a member of the 2014 Grey Cup championship team. Hecht broke in with the Montreal Alouettes in 2011.

“I thank Fred and Jeff for everything they’ve done for this organization over the past five seasons and particularly for their contributions to our Grey Cup championship in 2014,” said Stampeders president and general manager John Hufnagel. “In addition to their contributions as players, they were both quality people off the field and I wish them the best of luck.”
