Conteh Joins Stamps, Hunchak Returns

The Calgary Stampeders have signed national defensive back Abu Conteh. In addition, national receiver Colton Hunchak, who attended Stampeders training camp after being selected in the eighth round of the 2019 CFL draft, has rejoined the club.

Conteh was selected by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the third round (23rd overall) of the 2017 CFL draft and played a total of 16 regular-season and playoff games over the 2017 and 2018 seasons. He has five career special-teams tackles in the regular season and one special-teams tackle in the playoffs.

Collegiately, Conteh played 15 games over two years at Grambling and recorded 15 tackles including 1.5 tackles for loss. He was pressed into service as a kicker during the Tigers’ 2016 Southwestern Athletic Conference championship game against Alcorn State and booted three extra points as well as performing kickoff duties. Prior to Grambling, Conteh played two seasons of junior college football at North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, N.D.

Conteh was born in Sierra Leone and raised in Winnipeg.

Hunchak attended training camp with the Stamps and had a 27-yard catch in the home pre-season game against Saskatchewan on May 31.

The Calgarian was a two-time second-team Ontario University Athletics all-star at York. In 2018, the Notre Dame High School alum finished fourth in the OUA with 58 receptions. He had 610 receiving yards and six touchdown catches. He was limited to three games in 2017 due to injury but in 2016 he earned second-team all-conference honours after making 43 catches for 588 yards and five touchdowns.
