Stamps Tame Lions For Huge Win

The Lions sleep tonight.

A huge defensive effort earned the Stampeders their 3rd-straight victory Saturday night as they downed the BC Lions 39-10 at BC Place.

With the win the Stamps improve to 5-5 on the season, while the Lions drop to 4-5 on the 2021 CFL campaign.

Stamps quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell completed 22 passes for 270 yards. While Richard Sindani notched a career high six receptions for 60 yards. Darnell Sankey led the way for the defence with nine tackles for a league leading total of 70 on the season.
On the other side of the field quarterback Mike Reilly went 13-for-25 for 145 yards, Nathan Rourke completed 11 passes for 115, while Bryan Burnham made seven receptions for 93 yards.

The Lions got on the board first after a 43-yard Bryan Burnham reception put the home team in the red zone. Nathan Rourke ran the ball in for the score on the following play. The Lions attempted a two point convert after, but were unsuccessful.

It wasn’t long before the Stamps answered back, though. On the next drive Bo Levi Mitchell and Luther Hakunavanhu connected in the endzone for the rookie’s first CFL touchdown. Rene Paredes nailed the convert to put the Red & White up by one after the first quarter.

The Stamps defence stood tall for the next 15, forcing four Lions two-and-outs – holding them scoreless for the entire quarter, while Paredes padded the Stamps’ lead. He’d boot a 42-yard field goal right with 8:58 remaining in the frame, and hit twice more from 17 yards and 39 yards in the final minute of the half to give the Stamps a ten point advantage after two.

The Stamps kept their momentum rolling into the next frame, as Roc Thomas got things started in the third with a 101-yard punt return for a touchdown, the convert was good to make it 23-6.

The Lions tried to chip away at the Stamps’ lead on the following drive, but a Jimmy Camacho field goal attempt missed wide left – they’d settle for a single after the ball went out of bounds.

Paredes kicked his fourth field goal of the night shortly after, this one from 45 yards out.

Camacho responded with a field goal of his own from 28-yards. Paredes followed up with another kick at the beginning of the fourth, a 28-yard field goal to widen the gap further.

Paredes then hit his sixth field goal with 6:46 left in the tilt from 18 yards.

On the following drive, Jonathan Moxey would round out scoring for the night with a pick six for the Red & White – running an interception 53 yards for the major. The convert was good.

Next up the Stamps host the Saskatchewan Roughriders at McMahon Stadium Oct. 23. Kickoff is 7:45 p.m. M.T.
