Congrats to Hank on his retirement

QB Henry Burris

Quarterback Henry Burris announced his retirement today after two decades in the Canadian Football League.

Burris began his CFL career with the Calgary Stampeders in 1997 and played three seasons, winning his first Grey Cup in 1998.

After stints with the Saskatchewan Roughriders (2000, 2003-04) and NFL’s Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers (2001-03), Burris returned to the Red and White in 2005 and spent the next seven seasons in Calgary.

He joined the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2012 and joined the expansion Ottawa RedBlacks in 2014, finishing his career in 2016 as a Grey Cup champion.

Burris is the Stamps’ all-time career leader in passing yards (32,191), pass attempts (3,677), completions (2,267) and touchdown passes (203). He’s also eighth on the club’s all-time rushing list.

He was named the Grey Cup MVP in the Stamps’ 2008 Grey Cup championship as he passed for 328 yards and was the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player in 2010.

“I congratulate Henry for everything he accomplished during his long and productive Canadian Football League career,” says Stampeders President and GM John Hufnagel, who coached Burris from 2008-11. “I thank him for all of his contributions to the Calgary Stampeder Football Club, particularly in 2008 and the important role he played in our Grey Cup championship.”

Calgary head coach Dave Dickenson played with Burris from 1997-99 and again in 2008 before coaching him from 2009-11.

“Congratulations to Henry for his great career,” says Dickenson. “During his 10 years in Calgary, he made a tremendous impact both on the field with his play and also off the field with his community work. I wish Henry, his wife Nicole and their sons Armand and Barron the best in whatever the future holds for them.”
