Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce the signing of national kicker-punter Tyler Crapigna, national defensive lineman Derek Wiggan and international defensive back Ryan Mouton. As per team policy, terms of the agreements were not disclosed.

All three players have previous experience with the Stamps — Crapigna and Wiggan attended training camp in 2014 before returning to university while Mouton was with the Red and White for three weeks at the end of the 2014 season during the period practice rosters were expanded.

Crapigna, who was selected in the fifth round (40th overall) by Calgary in 2014, made an impression while with the Stampeders at training camp last season as he kicked a game-winning field goal with no time left on the clock in a pre-season contest against Winnipeg. After returning to McMaster, he became Canadian Interuniversity Sport’s all-time leader in field goals when he kicked four three-pointers in an Oct. 18 game against Wilfrid Laurier to break the previous record of 82. He also set a single-season record for Ontario University Athletics.

Crapigna converted on 24 of 27 field goals for the season — an 88.9-per cent success rate — and was named a first-team OUA and CIS all-star. Crapigna kicked 84 field goals, six singles and 140 extra points for a total of 398 points in his five-year career with the Marauders.

With Queen’s University in 2014, Wiggan — a fourth-round selection by the Stamps in 2014 — made 36 total tackles and led the Gaels with 5.5 sacks. He led Ontario University Athletics with four fumble recoveries and also had 12 tackles for loss and one forced fumble. Wiggan was named a second-team OUA all-star. In 2013, he recorded 28 total tackles along with three pass breakups, 5.5 sacks and two forced fumbles and was named a first-team all-star for a second consecutive season.

Mouton was selected by the Tennessee Titans in the third round (94th overall) of the 2009 National Football League draft and played 36 games over three seasons for the Titans. Mouton played two seasons (2007-08) at the University of Hawaii, seeing action both as a defensive back, a receiver and a kick returner. He earned first-team all-Western Athletic Conference honours as a senior in 2008 as he recorded 43 tackles, including six tackles for loss, one sack, one interception and eight pass breakups. He also had eight catches for 71 yards and 24 kickoff returns for 514 yards and a touchdown.
