It started off with 16 big plays from the Stamps 2016 season and was narrowed down to just one.

The final saw DaVaris Daniels‘ spectacular one-handed catch at home against Ottawa against Alex Singleton‘s game-saving goal-line forced fumble in Ottawa.

After thousands of votes, Stamps fans have spoken. The winner of the 2016 Play of the Year Showdown is Alex Singleton.

Singleton’s play came at a key moment in the Stamps’ third game of the season. The game was tied at 20 a piece with 1:40 left and Ottawa had the ball on Calgary’s one-yard line. RedBlacks quarterback Trevor Harris handed the ball off to running back Nic Grigsby, who was stuffed by a blazing Singleton coming up the middle. Grigsby fumbled the ball and Stamps safety Joshua Bell recovered.

Singleton stopped a sure touchdown and the game went into overtime. Each team kicked a pair of field goals in the overtime series and the game ended in a 26-26 tie.

Congrats to Alex (and a nod to J-Bell) on the honour of having the 2016 play of the year and thanks to the thousands of fans who voted!

We’re looking forward to more spectacular plays in 2017!
