Stampeders Bolster Secondary

The Calgary Stampeders have signed international defensive backs Jabari Gilbert, Malique Jackson, Lorenzo Jerome, Marko Myers and Raheem Wilson.

Here is more information on the five rookies:

Jamari Gilbert

International

Gilbert played four seasons at the University of the Incarnate Word, a Division I Football College Subdivision school in San Antonio, Tex. He played receiver for the Cardinals and in 37 games accumulated 66 catches for 963 yards and seven touchdowns.

Malique Jackson

International

Jackson played receiver during his senior season (2018) at Bethune-Cookman, making 21 catches for 355 yards and two touchdowns. He also had three carries for 35 yards. He transferred to Bethune-Cookman after three years (2004-16) as a backup defensive back at Florida State.

Jerome was with the National Football League’s San Francisco 49ers in 2017 and attended training camp with the Seattle Seahawks in 2018. He played four seasons at Saint Francis Univeristy and recorded 252 tackles including 14 tackles for loss, 18 interceptions with two touchdown returns, two forced fumbles, one fumble return, 29 knockdowns and five sacks. On special teams, he returned 45 kickoffs for 1,225 yards and three touchdowns and added 39 punt returns for 295 yards and one touchdown.

Myers attended training camp with the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2018 and later joined the Bucs’ practice roster. He then signed with the Alliance of American Football’s Orlando Apollos on Nov. 9, 2018. Myers played 33 games over four seasons at Southeastern University, a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics school in Lakeland, Fla. He was a three-time Sun Conference all-star – twice on the first team and once on the second team – while accumulating 91 tackles and nine interceptions during his career with the Fire. He also had 576 punt-return yards and two touchdowns.

Raheem Wilson

Wilson played four seasons at Southeastern Oklahoma State where he saw action in 45 games and registered 182 tackles including 10 tackles for loss, 18 interceptions with three returned for a touchdown, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery for a touchdown and 47 knockdowns. Wilson added two punt returns for 18 yards and nine kickoff returns for 178 yards. As a senior, he was named first-team all-Great American Conference and led all Division II players with 24 pass breakups. He set the school’s all-time records for career interceptions and knockdowns. Wilson spent two years in the German Football League for the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns and was part of back-to-back German Bowl championship teams.
